I just checked some Audie Murphy web sites. It looks like the Army Commendation Medal was the only award he didn't receive!

But the seller does have 100% positive feedback, so it must be the real deal!

In my younger, wicked youth, I would have been trying to enlist some of my fellow medals collectors in a conspiracy to bid this thing up to like 1.4 million dollars, just out of sport, to make the seller's eyes bug out of his head when he saw it... and then withdraw the bids before it got going too close to the end of the auction... now I'm just older and have mellowed with age, and am plain too lazy to take on the project! But I couldn't resist saying at least SOMETHING about it!

I betcha the medal does not belong in that case.
In the NCO Corps there is a group called the Audie Murphy club. You have to pass boards and some tests to become a member, a fairly elite club of NCOs, (they even get their own parking space at the PX). Once a member they are awarded a medal, long blue ribbon with medallion, to be worn around the neck...I bet that is what the case is...

Ok... so you mean to tell me then that it's not REALLY Audie Murphy's ARCOM then? Man, you just burst my bubble!

Seriously, I had never heard of that group before. What's the actual medal look like? Never come across one. That'd certainly explain the case being named like that. It is an odd auction and style case too, having it named like that, certainly not one that I would expect anyone with any brains (or any semblance of even a few brains) would ever bid on and actually consider for a second that it was AM's. If one were to try and dummy up his medals, I guess it would seem pretty improbable that they would try and pawn off an ARCOM as being his when they could have chosen a Silver Star, DSC, etc. And to top it off, it would probably cost at least as much to have the name foiled onto the case like that as it would to just buy the medal and case alone, so the group you mentioned sounds reasonable in terms of why it is named.

I think your explanation certainly seems like probably what the medal case actually is for!

Interesting on the group though! I didn't think my being a smart *#@ and starting this post would lead to learning about something like the Audie Murphy NCO group!
