Keep in mind it's almost 20 years old now.
It was the first full book on fake detection, but it's now well out of date.
Also - it has a few mistakes in it that have been corrected by forums like this one.

Despite its shortcomings (and there are several) it is still a very worthwhile addition to any serious collectors reference library.

There are so many medals books.......but the best ones are still probably those by Angolia and Littlejohn. They have stood the test of time well.

The best thing is that we have a member that bothers to research. Some individuals just post and ask "is it fake or real and how much is it worth" Just the the idea to try to locate a book or info on the subject gives the thumbs up from me. Good initiative.

I'd recommend the book A Definitive Guide to German Awards of World War 2, Volume 1 The General Assault Badge by Frank Heukemes. While focusing on the GAB, the information provided about the reverse of these badges can also be applied to many other badges as well. A great reference work.
My first introductions to collecting were Mr. Lumsden's Detecting the Fakes and Cristopher Ailsby's A Collector's Guide to World War 2 German Medals and Political Awards. You can find them very reasonably priced and they are provide a good basic introduction of awards and medals.
Welcome aboard!
Kevin

Rookie Question
Which book and / or combination of books would you all recommend on Badges that would be the most thorough on statistics (i.e weights, measurements, face recognition, hinge/pin and catch set up, maker marks) or the ones mentioned above cover this.

Bill Gaynor
