Militaria Markets in Kiev and Odessa, Ukraine
Does anyone have any information on when and where the local collectors market meets in Kiev or Odessa?
Any tips on good places to find militria in Kiev, Odessa and Simferopol would be appreciated.
Boodlaska!

I hope you are aware of the fact that even if you buy something on the market in Ukraine - most likely you will not be able to take your finds out of the country. Exporting of most militaria (medals, uniforms, etc) is currently prohibited by Ukrainian laws.

Thank you for your concern. Yes, the exportation of such items is regulated. Taking out orders and medals is strictly forbidden and not possible; however other items can be taken out in compliance with law provided the correct documentation is obtained from the government. This can be a task in and of itself but is not impossible. Knowing in advance what you will be allowed to take out is impossible.
I recommend avoiding big ticket items. Sticking with paper, watches and common souvenir items is the safest!

If memory serves right, there's a nice open-air market up the road (hill) from the opera house in Odessa that has some militaria--anyone should know where the latter is if you ask...

Thank you! I promise to eschew prohibited items.
If anyone wants to know where to go in Sevastopol or Moscow, just ask!

Odessa.
The meetings in Odessa and Kiev are every Sunday since 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. In Odessa you can find it next to park of Shevchenko, building "House of Student". I saw there a lot of interesting things.

Konyechna Tovarisch!
There is a large market at Izmailovski Park with all kinds of souvenirs including militaria. This is the best place to get ordinary souvenirs and watches. While it's open every day, weekends are by far the best!
To get there, take the blue Line Metro to the Izmailovskaya ostanovka (third to last stop). Exit the station and head to your left. Here is a link to the metro map: http://www.waytorussia.net/Moscow/MetroMap.html
You will see lots of people selling stuff along the way in but don't get tempted as your not even there yet! There is a small admission charge to the market ($1 USD or less).
To get to the good stuff, go to the stairs that lead up to the art section and turn left. Militaria will be on both sides of the midway heading towards the other street entrance.
Remember the restrictions on taking stuff out. They're a lot stricter now than in the past. A German was arrested a few years ago for trying to take out medals and orders. I don't know all what he had but I remember hearing about it in the news.
There was a big fire at Izmailovski a year or two ago but locals assure me that the market is still open. Does anyone know for sure?

I was at Izmailovski Park 3 years ago. I bought few badges, posters and souvenirs, but I have never seen interesting military stuff. I went on the weekends and during the week. I think there is only people on the 2nd floor on the weekend.

Izvenitye!
It's been longer than that since I was there. When I went (1997-1999), it was an out door market (all seasons) and there was a great deal of militaria especially on weekends.
I've been told about a collector's meeting that regularly occurs in Moscow where all kinds of collectibles, including militaria, are traded and sold; however, I don't know where or when it is held.
Any one out there know?
