Frank,
Wonderful pictures!! 
This one, with Kretschmar shows him wearing what seems to be a Iron Crozz 2nd Class in place of the Knight´s Cross. However, even the cross looks odd to me!  
This kind of thing really give a "special touch" to the picture, in my opinion.
