Helmets take me a little longer because I have to toss everything off my computer desk to get a big enough space.
I have a window up above that needs to be covered, but truthfully I'm not worried about total perfection.

A cheap camera and equipment can give you some decent results and forget all that editing stuff unless you love to do it.

Natural light with fill flash and diffusion panel (light box works well)
Ensure correct colour temperature
ISO 200 or less
100 mm macro lens for 1:1 ratio
If not doing 1:1 ratio documentary style shot, then anything goes - whatever you like.

First I made pictures with my Samsung NX100, but now I take only pictures with my iPhone 4 and I must say that my iphone 4 also can make good quality pictures. Much easier than putting together a digital SLR camera I'm considering my NX100 no less than 4 months old, i put it for sale on ebay. I do not use flash only possible much natural sunlight.

I'd love to see an example of this. Care to show a highlight of something laying around, please?

Biggie Top Tip No. 1: Take photos in natural daytime light - morning or mid-afternoon works best for me.

Biggie Top Tip No. 2: Use a high F number (f2.8 or lower) so you get the bokeh effect and with your item with a crisp focus. Choose an interesting background but not over powering.

Biggie Top Tip No. 3: You can always take a large photo and then use a photo editor to crop, rotate or scale down. Only scale smaller but not bigger or you'll get a pixellated image!
