The new hotel (INter Continental?) has been built on the site where Goering's house used to stand. The Turken was returned to the original family after the war I think. It is a great place to stay at. You can go down to the entrance of the underground bunker network....

As I climbed on that chair, I put my camera through the hole and this is the other side...leading to Hitler's and Morell's bunker ...so the writting says on the right hand side of the other photo.

Very happy to have provided some entertainment for you all. Thanks for the compliments on my photography. To be honest, I've got a cheap digital.

Jon is correct. The militaria is in an upstairs room of an antique shop,,,and proceed with caution as I did see quite a bit of material that I had no faith in.

If you can find these spires, then you can find the town square. The antique store is on the north side of the town square. You can see these from miles away so it shouldn't be a problem finding it!

Here's a shot of the store. There were little signs in the window that said
"Ask for militaria"
I've got a couple of bags of goodies!

We did go on the "tea haus" walk too.

Here's the golf course Jon mentioned. It sits across the street from the Turken and the Berghof site. It's a ski resort in the winter.

The weather was starting to close in, but it was quite warm and still beautiful.

This is one of the indications that you're on the right path to the tea house....

Tim-great tour! What again is the name of the hotel, did you need reservations and what did it cost per night? I have a cunning plan! Mike

Spent a number of days in that area both in the 80's and in 2002. The golf course used to be part of AFRC (Armed Forces Recreation Center). Back in the 80's there was a lot more buildings around there. We stayed at the General Walker Hotel (Plattenerhof) and below it stood most of the guest house for high ranking people just above Hitler's Berghof. Next to it, was a tunnel that was "closed". Yes, being young and stupid I explored it. No Nazi treasure. The Walker Hotel, SS Barracks, the motor pool, the nursery, the remains of Goering's and Bormann's house all used to be there within walking distance.

In 2002, we stayed at nice Gasthaus down the road. My son and I explored the same areas, but the tunnels were gone and the big resort was being built over the old sites.

At first I thought these were natural ponds, then I realized...two oval ponds, almost the same exact size and next to each other....they were bomb craters from the 617 Squadron attack in late April '45!!!
The flash lit up the foliage in the foreground so they are hard to see.
That made me wonder how many of the "water hazards" on the golf course were actually bomb craters too!

(Mike, Hotel Zum Turken, with umlats. We did have reservations and it was reasonably priced).

A thick fog moved in and in the dark forest....well let's say it got a little bit spooky!
Our tea house walk was cut short when heavy rain started ...we had the ladies to think about!
That's all for now, gotta run to work, doubt the boss would understand why I was late!

Great thread Tim, it actually brought back memories when I went there as a kid (in the '70's). I wish I would have appreciated it more. Maybe one day I can convince the wife to visit there.

EXCELLENT thread!! I've been down to Bavaria before, and there are few places in the world to match it's beauty.

Can't wait to go back!
