Pinning this thread
I don't know if this is the place to propose pinning this thread, or if it even qualifies for pinning but I would like to respectfully ask that this thread be pinned. What started out as a simple thread on finding an EK II has turned into a thread of great value and vast information to those who are thinking of a trip to the Obersalzberg. Because of the constantly changing dynamics of the place and the need to preserve the history surrounding the "O" I feel that it qualifies for pinning.

Excellent thread!
There is much to see in Berchtesgaden and the Obersalzberg region, and despite the demolitions and the eroding forces of time, many remnants of the third reich epoch yet remain. Geoff Walden's site does an outstanding job of examining many of these sites.
For the purposes of this thread, I thought I would contribute a few images of some of the locations which haven't yet been pictured here. The inquisitive eye is invited to see into another time..
First site of great interest to me is the Bahnhof designed by Albert Speer. I took this on my last visit, some years hence, and I believe there is now an awning over the front facade.

The interior of the building is simple and elegant. Those with an interest in Architecture will note Speer's signature designs throughout.

A walkway from the rear of the Bahnhof. Note the date of 1937 above the door.

Another impressive building to visit is what used to be the barracks for a Gebirgsjägerregiment. I believe this was built in 1936. It was used by the Americans for many years, but now belongs to the Bavarian State.
Note the epic panorama of mountains in the background, crowned by Der Watzmann.

Have many more photos from what is arguably one of Bavaria's most enchanting mountain hamlets.. Will post again when I get the opportunity.

My wife has a spoon from Berchtesgaden with an enameled crest on the end of the handle. Not sure if it is pre WWII or post war, could even be war time. I'll have her get it out and take pics of it, maybe someone can give us a clue about it

Great thread . Spent 4 days there 6 years ago and just didnt want to leave . I cant wait to go back there next year some time i hope. I know it sound weird but we made a short cut throught the cemetary and could not believe all the period memorials inside the wall facing the main street of all the local boys who did not return from WW1 and WW2! Most had pictures on the memorials and some families lost 3 sons in different branches on the eastern front! I took video of them all and hope to post it in the future. You turn around from the wall and its very eiry to be able to spy the eagles nest from the cemetary! By the way, nice looking girl!!! Must make it all the more enjoyable. regards Johnno.

This is a private photo from a large WSS document group that I own. The man served in the Westland regiment, was severely wounded and eventually transferred to serve in the SS Wachkompanie Obersalzburg. I assume this photo was taken there, and I wondered if those of you w/ a first hand knowledge of the place could identify exactly where...
