My suggestion:

- scabbarb looks repainted
- knots is a big ? (for my collection, I wouldn't buy it)
- washer is for sure not for this degen
- number I don't like at all

Could you pls send a picture how is it looking inside the pommel.

IMO the degen is right as rain and the repaint doesn't bother me nor does the replaced blade washer. It's not that bad of a sword and I wouldn't mine it in my collection. Now it has been quite a few years since I actively collected SS degens and accoutrements so it looks like I need to study up on the knots. To me the knot looked original and I assumed it was just new old stock. So other than the looseness of the wrappings what do I need to look for?
Thanks ,Dale

From the pictures I like the portapee, I guess nothing beats a "hands on" but I don't think there is a problem with it.

I like this sword also. Washer looks like it has been there and it's only a washer. Repainted scabbard? hard to tell from pics but I lean toward no. Numbers also look like they have been there but who knows./ Overall i think it is fine IMO

As statet before,me too!

Portepee, may can be a good one like Bob's opinion!

Here are a 100% original Portepee was attached on a family obtained SS-Führerdegen.
My first eye on Portepees are the flat cords, mostly on the upper oak, lines.I love this

Nice Portepee TOBAU !

I have his twin brother it seems !

I agree with you about the flat cords on the upper oaklines which i don't find on that degen !

For information, that SS degen is for sale from a guy in Northern france. He asks : 5000-6000€ for it !

Regards

K.

Nice tagged portapees!!!!
On the crushed or flattened look, I think that is just from wear over the years. I think someone made a mistake on the first portapee and called it fake. Now we are all cautious to call it "real" but.... I am used to making mistakes, that is a way we learn.
I think everything is "probably" fine on the sword, repainted yes, but, I have had many swords that were repainted. On the numbers, I suspect they are fine too but would prefer a hands on. Most likely a fine sword if you don't mind a repaint. To me, "who cares", I think the paint was period done and part of the history of the sword.
Happy Easter!
Bob
