This first kanji had stumped me .... but I think there is a crease in the steel I thought was a stroke; so none of the obvious kanji came to mind.

I'm thinking it is
盛光
Morimitsu

There are 20 Morimitsu smiths listed by Marcus Sesko, ranging from 1368 ~ 1945.

I've found a 1st Generation Morimitsu to compare the kanji. Your (*if* it is Morimitsu) kanji signature style does not match the 1st generation's style; it might be one of the other 19 Morimitsu ... or it could be a "gimei" [false signature]. I'm no expert!

I think you got it Guy.It would be about forth or fith generation. With its good
mounts and solid silver habaki its unlikely to be false.
Cheers.
