Default Luftwaffe General's Tunic Questions

Luftwaffe General's Tunic (Calm down, I assume the insignia is fake although good looking at a distance) questions...The tunic appears to be WWII era and possibly Luftwaffe or could it be some other organization like DLV? Or is it just a copy? Post war military perhaps?

Thanks for looking. Ed

Exclamation

May donate it to Good Will and film it when they put it out for sale, might be fun to see what happens...Or save it for Halloween.

Ed,

Contrary to Gene's comments, here's what can be said based on these pics:

* The basic tunic itself (with no insignia, gilt buttons, or fake DKiG) is more than likely original. Although the "textbook" design of Luftwaffe tunics calls for pleated pockets with straight-cut flaps you can find plenty of period pics showing scalloped pockets on private purchase Tuchrocks. The wool quality and tailoring looks fine so I'd say it's a nice quality period garment.

* The gilt twist cord sewn to the collar is original period cord for General's ranks. Until we can see better pics of the tabs and boards it is impossible to say if it's original to the tunic. I say this because that DKiG is just pathetic so with that being added I'd have to question the integrity of the other pieces.

* The buttons have the correct muted honey-gold appearance we like to see for originals, but again, owing to the DKiG I'd have to default to the opinion that this is a piece that was put together post-war using some original stuff, and some post-war, and/or junk.

Can you post better pics? Also, I'm sure you're joking, but if you're going to donate it to Goodwill I'll buy it off of you. And I'm not joking!

Best regards and Happy New Year!

Bob

Ed,

Thanks for the extra pics.

My assessment on this remains the same as the pics just don't provide the degree of detail necessary to offer a more definitive opinion on the rest of the insignia.

I'm not knocking your photographic acumen, it's just this literally has to be done in macro.

Bob,

These images are all I had, so I'll get close ups tomorrow. Any chance the aiguilette is authentic? Hell of a fake if now...Of course, it may just be a Marching Band Leader's outfit with an eagle added.

The DK doesn't even have the 1941 and it glows like radium-226!

The aiguillette has three tips on it and that is due to there incorrectly being one extra short cord at the upper rib area.

That being said, it is the wrong pattern for a Luftwaffe officer/general anyway. Regarding authenticity - too hard to tell without having it in-hand. I generally don't like aiguilettes that don't have plated zink or aluminum tips, and this one doesn't look like it has either.

Tunic could be early Bundesluftwaffe.

Absence of slit for dagger attachment through tunic lining (normally present in pre-1945 officer tunics) and style of lining is consistent with early BLW.

Just my opinion, of course.

I disagree ; I would think more to a 100% modern fake... or an original that has been rebuilt ; hard to tell

Ed, it looks like it would be a great costume! I'll take it off your hands if you decide to donate it? Steve
