Default Japanese officer's sword information please

Hello all,

I recently acquired this in a group from a man who had bought this sword as a WW2 Japanese officer’s. I haven’t been able to investigate the tang as I don’t see a pin in the handle. Can anyone offer any suggestions for its removal? It is not a type of sword I recognize but I would appreciate any information on it.

Best,
Finn

Agree with Nick. They likely covered the pegs intentionally. You’ll probably have to remove the sarute, kabutogane, and slide the leather wrap off if you want to see the nakago.
