The only award he got was the "Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz", wound badge in black,on 24th September 1944. The guy was wounded in the fights against the operation Market Garden.

He was awarded the badge on that day, but that does not mean that he was actually wounded during Market Garden. We would need to see the wound pages.

So where if not there? Normandy? A Wound badge awarded after 3 months by the unit commander is rather unlikely in my opinion. May be still possible if the award was given in a hospital, for a severe wound, but I don't think this is the case.

Hi all !

Interesting Soldbuch and discussion.

- I think behind that entry Verw.Abz. in Schwarz it says :
d.(urch) Res.(erve) Laz.(arett) .... (I cannot read the name of the Lazarett).

It would be the easiest of course, if Thälmannpionier could show the wound pages.

@Uncle Kurt :
a) Are you referring to the later Kdr. of Fsjg.Rgt. 18(alt) resp. Rgt. von Hoffmann ?

b) Are you sure ? If you refer to p. 2, I think below that signature it says Obl. and Komp. Führer ?
I didn't see a signature of him so far, so I would be curious to know. Thanks in advance.

Bestr regards,

Archi

It seems Paulus_Gun was right
The soldier was hit in Normandy, and during the op. Market Garden he was still in the hospital

Hello !

Thanks for the additional info on Oberst v. Hoffmann !

And yes, it seems Paulus_Gun was right.
Wounded in Normandy and the Verw.Abz. was awarded later by Res.Laz. Schwäbisch Hall.

Best regards,

Archi
