Exclamation Need help with this U Boat badge / plaque

Hello all,

Im in contact with an old lady who wrote a book about her brother. The brother served in the Kriegsmarine and was on different u boats.

She still have all of his stuff - even a few letters from Dönitz.

She showed me this badge (?) and told me her brother brought it back during his fronturlaub.

But was is it? Looks like a schwerin type 1 badge but without pinback and silver finish / lack of gilding.

Sorry I messed totally up with the front pick. But it has a very nice looking. No cast. Weight around 19.8g

Maybe it was for a plaque or something similar.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

I know it is frustrating when nobody posts but sometimes we just have very little to say or no opinion.

Part of the problem in this case is the story you provided but you did not provide any of the associated material the lady has in her possession. It would be most helpful if you would.

Absent that, this example is not in any way an issue piece that a U boat sailor would have had in his possession. There were no plaque badges either.

Therefore, this is a cast reproduction at best of an original piece. maybe you are right a SB. Or who knows?

Perhaps you are thinking it is a blank, I doubt that very much.

So the next step, and this is the best part of your post, is to go back, make quality scans or camera shots of the rest of the material and post it here.

My bet, if this did come from a vet family, he obtained it post war. John
