Yes, the baseplate can be removed like in 30round magazines. It holds 10, eleventh one is not possible to load.

Can you show your one, please?

Are those original FG42 magazine's?
That is an incredible collection.
I have one original FG42 magazine (sjl 01), all my others are pretty faithful Ssd reproductions.

Here is my short mag. It was picked up by a GI with a mp44(not this one) at the battle of the bulge. Its field made and the baseplate doesnt come off. I use it to shoot with it a lot because its very comfortable on a rest or prone. I understand why some soldiers would want to cut down one magazine.

I believe damaged magazines were often cut down. I stole these pictures. We would never do this to a magazine now. Only one looks like it might be factory produced.

You are probably right about damaged magazines but there are some real advantages to having a short mag. Especially if you are in a low defliade position trying to keep your profile down.
