Rarer german vehicles, yes - but seeing a common Sherman on the battlefield feels good

So I contacted the responsible of the vehicle restoration center of Bastogne today.
The Panther is only getting its outside done. The village of Houffalize is paying the costs because it's "their" tank. It will depend on the available money how far it will be restored. After restauration it will be put on display again in Houffalize. Unfortunately there is no intention to make it drive again because that work would take years and costs hundreds of thousands €

We will have to be happy with that... No idea about the camo sheme they will apply.

Kind of a shame, but still really hope it's more than just a new layer of paint. I can truly understand the towns possessiveness, and it really does look cool in that location; but having the tank out in the elements... it's only a matter of time and all the coats of paint in the world can't save it from the inevitable fate that awaits..

Well, if this means they get the missing parts like roadwheels and tracklinks, fine for me.
Those are not to expensive and easy to find. I got some for the Overloon museum when they restored their "Panther".

Surely a simple "bus shelter" type of cover would not be expensive and would be some protection ?

Yes kind of. Some lefties/ rasta****/...must have put it on the tank. They are against all sort of military stuff.

I guess the guy who put it on it didn't know the english language. Its no Dutch or French either
