Looks to be an Allegemeine SS General's repro with a button on it in place of the skull? (there appears to be a faint outline from a totenkopf)

Stonemint;
there has been another badge on it once but not a skull.
ca 1cm left and right of the present button are the holes from what could have been a wreath.
that imprint left by that former badge indicates a wreath as well.
the top itself also had a badge.
large oval one wich left a faint imprint and had 2 prongs 2,5 cm apart.
no eagle for sure.
another feature is that the velvet cap band and the 2 silver cords under and above it,are easy to remove.
all are only attached with some simple thread stitching.
under that velvet it's the same wool as the top.
my guess is veteran (kriegerbund) or again music/band related.
all the best,
Kees

Heinrich Balke deutsche wertarbeit.
Black wool with very fine threaded white piping.
The front half of the sweatband has been replaced poorly.
Again probably some veteran kriegerverein.
Not made to pretend to be a copy for something else.
