Another message from Leipzig museum curator has arrived. He sent me a link with a photograph of a DDR hat that we already have, thanks to Gordon, but there can be find a lot of useful information regarding the German uniforms. Here it is:

most DDR visors have 2 pipelines in purple.
this Emhage one has 3 pipelines.
next to it is a normal one from the VEB PERFEKT BERLIN.
this is the all blue one with purple piping that I first mentioned.

TimoJ,

That resembles an LSU (Labour Service Unit) badge but I think there should be more flames than is shown on this one. I'll post what I have photos of shortly.

Regards,

Gordon

TimoJ,

I don't have a reference for that specific badge but I beleive it is the general shoulder badge worn by LSU/CSU personnel serving with the U.S. Army serving in Germany following WWII. I say this because of the green background of the shield. Here is the same badge, but as worn by personnel of the LSU/CSU serving with the U.S. Airforce in Germany after WWII. I'll post them together for comparison purposes.

Regards,

Gordon

Here is the LSU/CSU badge that I was thinking of when I mentioned above that it should have more flames. If I remember correctly, this is the officers sleeve bdge.

Gordon

Kees,

Nice hat. The M43 style hat in post 38 is not an unknown item to me. I have a uniform to go with it. The cap badge is the Bayerische Helmabzeichen introduced in 1946. I've never seen the Bavarian cockade in wear on the M43 style cap. I haven't seen one of the Bavarian fuerwehr visors like you posted either. Nice one.
These cap badges were also worn on the collars of Bavarian fuerwehr tunics at one time.

Regards,

Gordon

Gordon

Thanks! This is really a much more interesting patch now.

The material is a synthetic and looks fairly modern to me.

Are these units still around as local hires?

TimoJ,

No they are no longer in existance. They were first organized in 1948 and ceased to exist in 1989.

Gordon

Gordon;
to be honest,I didn't know I had a bavarian visor till yesterday, although it came from the attic.
here a picture with the badge from the visor,a collar badge and a larger one from the Assmann firm.
maybe the last one is such a helmabzeichen like you mentioned ?
all the best,
kees

Kees,

The large shield is for the early metal WWII style feuerwehr helmet. The helmets were painted red with the plain unpainted shield on the front. Here is a picture of one of these helmets from my archives. I have not been successful in bidding on one yet! Note the red paint on the side of the larger badge. The cockade on the cap band is the Bavarian cockade that was worn on early post WWII Feuerwehr and polizei caps.

Regards,

Gordon

Not Flames, but Wing's. It's the General Insignia LSU/CSU for all USAF in Europe.
And Yes, it's an Bullion Officers Insignia, very nice.

if not,posts will be made.
