Default The impossible collection !

Dear all !

I many years collecting and meeting Vets at the end of the previous Century, some among the older collectors here had some opportunities to see remarquable documents.... The fate of most of this Paperstuff is unknown to me.... kept by Families, sold to collectors after the Veteran passed way, or simply threw in a dumpster....
I would like to share with you those I feel entitled to, for the simple pleasure to share and discuss among passionated collectors some ID's which - as far as I can know- were NEVER in collectors hands...

Of course, I am refering to a time where people having internet or a scan at Home was quite rare. It was the golden age of B/W photocopies ! Scanning them with a correct definition is not always simple, I apologize for the low quality of some of them.
I hope you will like the Idea, enjoy the Thread, share too, and feel free to comment. Lionel.

Let start with the SB from Major Hubertus NOESKE. He was decorated the german cross in Gold 1943, july 20th while serving as a captain in the Pz.A.A.12. A rich carreer in various pestigious Units including the 7th Pz.Div. (his PAB Award document (12.11.40) was signed by Generalmajor Rommel. He was also decorated with the Honour Clasp (Ehrenblattspange), PAB "25" and cufftitle "Kurland". A great and rare ID. Enjoy !

The second example to start this thread is this old copy of a french "Signal" from 1945 (??) showing some Pages of the SB belonging to Oblt Paul Langer, Gren.Rgt.170 (73.I.D.). At the time this article was written, Langer served as a btl-Kdr on the Italian front.... Did this SB still exists nowaday ?

Hi,

the article "Les maîtres de la guerre de positions" is taken from "Signal" magazine issue #2, 1945, starting from Page 12.

See You

Vince

It is too quiet Guys.... What about a GD Oblt with TDB, german Cross and 50 CC Days...

I met Mr. Kolewe for the first time in March 1998.... and a second time 3 years later... I am conscious it was a real chance and honour to once discuss with such a "frontfighter"

As he only had a son who sadly passed away in a car accident, I am quite sure this SB is now lost forever... He once gave me this great original portrait from him....

Lionel, great idea for a thread and excellent examples!

I have some of Hauptmann Jacobsen's documents including his first Soldbuch.

With the group came some old photo copies of Jacobsen's award documents.

Wonder if the original award docs still exist? I would pay a premium for them.

Indeed, it would be great to find groups that were separated.

Then there are the truly impossible. I have a WP to a recipient of the DKiG and the Ehrenblattspange. The EBS is not entered as he was KIA shortly thereafter. But his SB is complete and has both entries. The problem is, the SB is at BA-MA. I’ve been lucky enough to get images of the entire SB, but the book itself will never make it to my collection. That is truly part of the “Impossible”!!!

Thank you Guys for your support, which calls me to dig deeper in my archives.

Very interesting case revealed by Brian.... It's I thing the first time I hear that BA-MA (Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg) do own SB's.... Probably in a "Familiy Legacy", a lot of Families, especially those of high ranking Officers or well-known Names did this.

These personal legacy are very complicated to see, due to the german law protecting the individual datas.... Do you know Brian if it is in your case such a recent legacy ? We could perhaps have here some further explanations from one specialist of the BA-MA, our Friend Jason Mark

I recently had an interesting contact with the Family of a german Cross in Gold Bearer who entered contact with the Deutsche Dienststelle WASt in Berlin.... Surprisingly, they sent the guys very personal documents from his Uncle Oblt Xaver Eulenlehner (DKG 25.4.42, 8./Sch.Rgt.63, KIA 20.12.42 in Russia). They sent him :
- Full copy from the SB
- Full copy from the Wehrstammbuch
- Copy Miltär-Führerschein from 1940
- Copy Truppenausweis dated 1937

Note NONE of these document is wearing a stamp or handwritten words such as the well-known "Pers.Unterlagen"

In which percentage owns the WASt such original documents, I ignore that... Note the letter shown thereafter is dated march 2014, so quite recent.... I assume somebody here could shed light on the matter, that would be interesting for many Guys here !!

Meanwhile, here is this Letter, and two Pages of Eulenlehner SB's, which fully enters in the "Impossible collection".... By the way, note how unsual are the Entries for the E.K.II, IAB and E.K.1... If this one would have appear in the E-Stand, sure it would have been subject to debate The german cross in Gold Entry is signed by captain Ludwig Wunderlich, I have a Pic from him in my Portrait collection.
