Default A battlefield on my bucket list...

What a horror of a battle. It's on my bucket list of battlefields to visit in the East.

I recently had a bravery medal researched which was awarded to a communications sergeant for actions just a little South of Stalingrad-Himgorodok on 22 February 1943.
Only Stalingrad award so far.

Very cool. I went to Volgograd in December of 2000 and hired a guide and driver to take me to a lot of the prominent places from the battle in and around the city over the course of 3-4 days. Bucket list item checked off.

Thanks for sharing.
Was it a month or so after the Germans lost the battle of Stalingrad (if my memory serves correctly) when Himmler first gave orders to have bodies from the camps exhumed and burned?
Seems Stalingrad wasn’t just an important turning point strategically, It also made the Nazis aware that their time was coming to an end.
Enough can’t be said for the significance of this battle.
