Hello,

Many thanks for info about this lot.
These papers were in the group including gefr. Mecke photos.
I can only add that the value of the whole set was low, and the EK2 sheet did not create something of exceptional value. It was valued as a simple award sheet. So why produce a document fake with such a complex history?
P.S.
I have no intention of necessarily selling these documents, so I have no motive to necessarily prove that this is not a fake.

Regards, Saulius

Helo Saulius,

thanks for your testimony and additional infos about the grouping.

Just to be more precise, did you get the grouping from the family of from a dealer ?
Do you have other period documents about this soldier that may confirm that he was in Kolberg in 1945 ?

If this grouping was bought from a dealer, there is still the possibility that the original documents were "pimped" with bogus or modified awards/documents.

See You

Vince

Unfortunately but more documents related to this man's military service are not available. Most of the set contains photos and papers relating to his post-war life.
There is only one photo printed by a printer on plain paper showing the HJ group with the same person.
I bought this group of documents in Lithuania, a local fleamarkt from a seller which not have any connection with militaria collectibles. He knew it was "some sort of award sheet," but he didn't even know it was EK2, not to mention nuances such as date and location.
In my opinion, this kit was bought somewhere in Germany at a local fleamarkt.
But, as I mentioned earlier, the cost of all the papers was pretty small.

Hi,

thanks for the additional infos.

Hmmm it could be interesting to be able to contact the family, or maybe the WASt in Berlin to know if they can get any info on this soldier history.

But again it will be hard to be sure of anything (real or fake award) ?

The fact that the grouping was inexpensive is not a proof that it is legit.
Some old collections that are proposed on the market may be pimped with fakes.

Also the far too early date on the award is hard to understand, because if the soldier was indeed evacuated from Kolberg before March 18, any award would have been given after that date.
We are missing a lot of informations on the Western Pommerian campaign (March 4 to March 20), and Kolberg was not under fire until March 4-5.
Incredible testimonies found in French reports of the fights indicate that the whole area was "peaceful" and that "people were seen going to their work with their suitcase", totally unaware of the breakthrough of the Soviet armoured forces.

See You

Vince
