A few excellent Bundesmarine photos, kindly sent by my dear friend Daniel (GP41)

We can see Friedrich Ruge (RKT), Otto von Bülow (RKT), Gerhard Wagner (DKiG) and one unknown holder.

I like the fact these guys wore their RKs even though the rules said you didn’t.

Hi Tony,

in the Bundesmarine it was more often possible, to wear the decorations in the original size, e.g. during official international meetings ("internationale Gepflogenheiten" > international practices).
But it was only possible with the expressed permission of a higher command.

In Heer and Luftwaffe this possibility was much rarer.

Thanks Uwe, that’s very interesting. I wonder if that was why the made the ribbons so detailed? So you wouldn’t have to wear the full sized medals.

Hi Tony,

yes, soldiers in the West German Bundeswehr wouldn’t have to wear the full sized medals (also no ribbon bar).

See my last picture as a soldier after 36 years service; only my name and the "Internes Verbandsabzeichen".

On this day 5 professional soldiers left the Bundeswehr, each with a different "equipment" of badges and decorations.

In the East German NVA it was mandatory, based on the uniform type, to wear the decorations in the full size or on a ribbon bar.
