There were period printed cloth shields.. Found at the Dachau depot and,,a couple have turned up in period photos and jackets with good provenance.

There was the 'Bevo type' and a few embroidered types.

Milan,

I have no idea what the comment on all printed patches being fake is about, which is obviously untrue, and has been stated so by zip and gaspare so I will move on.

I do not like this POA printed shield for a couple of reasons.

1. Cutlines are to uniform, jet black and unlike any I've seen before. All printed POA shields I've liked have a cutline pattern shown in the pictures and have been a blue color. Picture is from Bunkermiltaria. IMG_1793.jpg

2. The fabric weight seems to heavy, but could be poor storage. I've attached another pic of what they are supposed to be.

3. The color of the entire patch is way to rich and the bleed through is not even close to how known originals should look.

Just my opinion brother.

Matt

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I too have seen the firm statement from a few "experts" that the printed patch was never issued. Many years ago I was given a collection of cut-off insignia collected by an intelligence officer in Normandie, post-D-day. All of the pieces went into deep storage some years ago, but I dug them out last week. As I recall, the two used examples were acquired as above, the other, embroidered example, I cannot remember. It could be that I am confused, but, to me, the printed patches are genuine, issued, and cut-off pieces, which I got as described.
Kerry.

Here are two earlier types . The one on the left might be the first type and is clearly shown in period photos. This one was a direct vet buy a number of years ago.

Nutmeg,,,2 nice pieces you got there....

Sure there was printed examples used. Somewhere there are period photos on them in use..
I had bought a POA tunic years ago.. Had a embroidered 1st pattern shield on it but a little beat up.. Later on when I was checking it I found a printed POA shield in the inside pocket!

Fakes are on the stiff side,,,and the bad fakes the white will glow...
The bevo type and embroidered shields are out there and prices are reasonable.. I'd go for them before a printed one..

Nice shots of printed shields in wear Matt!

P.S. I would ignore opinions of russian collectors - I used to read their forums and I have to say they are completely paranoid. They are dead serious that there are whole factories in US that mass produce German insignias. All printed shields are fake. All Dahau isnignia are fake too - mass produced by US veterans to trick the russians. The only true and original insignia is the one that is owned by the forum owner and everyone elses isnginia is "fake american ****". Trying to contradict or educate these guys is a waste to time and effort.

I love your comment. Didn't realize Cold War propaganda continued after the wall came down. Jim
