Default Shovel with Leather Carrier

Hi Folks:

I recently found this shovel with leather holder at an antique show....and on the wooden handle is "Stamped/burned" .."T.N.F fm" and there is a rounded edge square marking with a wide line thru it.

TeNo Frankfurt am Main...???? Since I bought this in Frankfurt (smile)

The shovel looks WWII period but the markings are ___?___

The leather carrier has no markings that I can find.

Any help in ID'ing this would be appreciated. Thank you,

Any help in identifying the period of the shovel, type, etc?

What about the "T.N.F fm"?

Leather holder period?

Thank you....

Spade is a WW1 style (riveted), similar to German "1874" model (#2 in diagram), or Swiss versions, although it's missing the "band" around the connection to the handle. Carrier is post-war (rivets, metal strap keeper on the buckle). Neither are German WW2.

Hi Folks:

I appreciate you pointing out the riveting and the metal keeper on the leather holder....but as I can see....there isn't much info out there to ID entrenching tools.

I don't have much invested in this...approx. 30 euro so it won't kill me if it's post war or ….. I'd just like to ID the shovel and holder. When I saw the "T.N.F.fm" burned into the handle ...I figured "Why not buy it"....vs. "I should have bought it!" I think we've all been there...."I should have...."

The leather holder having rivets and metal keeper ...I believe it's "post-war".....vs. being sewn

The shovel?? Rivets vs. welds and missing handle enforcement ring (i.e. like Swiss etc..) along with other issues....I don't know...the source (DDR, Swiss, German, etc...)?

We're all learning...maybe some more than others (smile) Thanks everyone.
