Not original IMO. It is clearly cast and all originals that I have seen are stamped. The detail is also very poor, no holes to attach and center piece seems also off in form and detail. Most originals that I have seen have some kind of makers mark and often date

What type of metal is this made from? The back side looks like cast zinc.

Here you have 3 different Examples. One is unissued, one from an NCO and the last one from the most known GBJ General there was. The Bundeswehr had nearly identical Types after the War with silver Center, and still uses them to this day. Yours is non of them, cheap Cast.....

I know *you* know, but just to clarify to others: the WW2 cap badge has a straight stem whereas the BW badge (image below) has a curved stem.
