There seems to be an interesting consistency to these LW bullion tropical eagles in the way the feather detail threads are done and the type of tropical tan wool used as backing material when wool is used rather than the other alternatives of tropical tunic twill or tropical shirt Poplin

Examples are shown in these threads;

p.s. the last image is a Luftwaffe tropical breast eagle sitting on page 109 of John Hodgin's book "German Paratrooper in North Africa" from Schiffer

Hi Mic... question....Is the material tropical tan or “old” age white.

Years ago I purchased a white officer’s tunic that “had” an eagle removed ...and I asked about bullion luft eagles on white.....I have always been on the look out for a bullion luft eagle on white....

Your’s looks white but...it could be faded tropical tan. I like it so far... waiting for comments

I don't like these big feet. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but just my humble opinion.

I just saw these shared by Chris in the other thread and responded there.

Also seeing my comments back from 2010! A lot has changed since then. Over time, experience, seeing countless period examples, period photos, and reproductions, my opinion has evolved. I consider these variants reproductions.

Again, one collectors opinion, but that is mine for what it’s worth.

Thanks for the up-date Jason on how you see them now.

Personally, I not know what to make of them. Thus I am making a study of every example that I can. Here is another shown in post number 40 of this thread;

Again note the double type thread used to make the feather detail and the feet/ claws. Is it the work of one maker/ manufacturer/ firm ?

Chris

Chris - to me it has to do with how this was constructed - particular in the legs and tail. But also the overall construction, gauge of wire, gauge and construction of highlight thread, etc. And the fact that these variants are ubiquitous. You see the same thing all the time, especially on general rank versions.
