I think some of Otto Kittel's awards were given to the USAF pilot who shot him down, after the war, by the son of Kittel.

Hi all, just stumbled across this thread and thought I’d let you all know that I have one tail strut from Erdniss’s BF109, bullet holes and all.
My Father served in the RNZAF and “aquired” it during training in Nelson after the aircraft had been sent to New Zealand.
I believe it’s the sole surviving item from that aircraft
