Default BGS blanket with zipper - sleeping bag predecessor

A little conversation was needet to get this "old army blenket" out of a stall of an older lady on a local fleamarked. She used this old thing her husband brought home from the Bundeswehr (her words...) as tarp under her preciouse stuff she was offering... O.k., from my side this was the only item there representing any worth....

interesting! i know these from early BW, but not BGS. Would have expected green stripe like the regular blankets.

Very nice!!! I have never seen one of these before, BGS or BW.

What does the zipper pull look like? Metal or plastic? I'm wondering if it is similar to the zipper on BW Splittertarn jackets.

have not seen BGS with regular sleeping bags (model with arms) until early 60s, but i thought BW received them around 1960 (at least earliest date i have seen?).

The oldest BW sleepingbags I've seen were dating 1959....

Here a picture of the zipper installation - to convert the blanket into a bag two separate zippers are installed...

By the way.... the BGS origin was made due to the colours used on this blanket. I received a technically similar one some years ago with a much brighter green used for the decorative stripes indicating a BePo origin. But both are missing a clear statement of ownership like it is on the plain blankets of this period with the wowen lettering like "Bundesgrenzschutz" or "Land Niedersachsen" or whatever.

So it is also not 100% clear to me how the equivalent used by the Bundeswehr has to look ... if these were not taken from BGS stocks I would think that there was a clear label like on most other early items (unlike the later versions for example the knee warmers and the field shirts have labels with as many information as later only to be seen on jackets....)
