Default WW 1 Pilot Badge

Hello,

I came across a small WW1 group a few years ago and need to sell a few items for a new purchase. Before I do, please confirm the Pilot Badge is a good one or not. Not my field so please help.

Thanks
Rudy

Thanks Ferg. For VtwinVince - As I was told, the group belonged to Carl Degelow but I got this from a dealer so who knows for sure.

Regards
Rudy

Hi!
The book with the autograph is fine...the badge, the iron crosses and the wound badge were awarded to Degelow, but the pieces shown might not be the „real“ examples. The clasps are not his, I assume.

The dealer told me it was but you never know and I don’t have any other proof.

Thanks for posting the other items, I particularly like the inscribed book.

Yes , it looks like the EK1 in the group is a flat one and the photo shows him wearing a vaulted example . Maybe he had two !

Hi Ferg. No actually, I did something stupid and lost the EK1 that originally came with the group. I just included one I had already.

Hi Rudy!
Losing a EK1 is unfortunate, indeed... Replacing it adds to the issues I have with this group:
- the text in the book says: „...seiner kl. Freundin Barbara Borck“ ( ...for his little girlfriend Barbara) .That seems to point more towards Barbaras estate - unless she gave it back to him
- depicted in the Baldes-book is a different pilots badge from Degelows estate (0K - probably he had more than one)
- the clasps show EK 2 1914, War merit cross 1939 and Hamburg hanseatic cross. I don´t know whether the last two have been awarded to him - but I do know he had the royal house order of Hohenzollern with swords...
That would be featured on a post-1939-clasp, don´t you think?
Just my 2 cents
Regards
Hagrid

You probably could be right. Like I said, selling pieces and the story is what was given me by the dealer and we all know what dealers do. I purchased the group for the Pilot Badge and thought the book was interesting.

Regards,
Rudy
