Default Gendarm matt (subdued) rank insignia?

Did the gendarm polizei branch wear matt (non shiny) rank insignia?
or is it Heeres Feldgendarmerie (MP) ? (on a civilian polizei coat...see link for additional photos)

Yes, the civil Gendarmerie wore matt officer's insignia on the field uniform, for use in rural and mountainous areas. It was not for the army feldgendarm who wore army insignia with the addition of a sleeve eagle.

I agree with Bill. Regular Gendarmerie Officers on active service in occupied territories wore subdued insignia as well.

I agree wit the above, the subdued insignia was worn by regular Gendarmerie on feldbluse and I've also found it on the M36, I suspect that was a case of promotion/availability or possibly field service at time.

Below is picture of the M36 being worn in the field, it just wasn't the so-called 'combat' uniform aka feldbluse. The picture is something I just copied the other day while leafing through an original SHAEF report that I have. Just thought it was interesting pic to see.

Thanks for clarifying...So many Heer recruiting or Feldgendarm (MP) matt officers shoulderstraps could very well be civil
gendarme for field wear! Good to know!

Indeed. If you went to a tailor shop I think he would use the same insignia for Army FG officers and civil Gendarmerie field tunic. Absolutely no difference. Difference would be seen in a war-time brevet rank where a brown underlay would be on the civil insignia whereas the army had no such configuration.

There are also subdued collar tabs and sleeve eagles for purchase. Officers bought their own insignia so it was really up to them what they wanted to use.

A guy had to be stylish after all.

Pic of some subdued straps...light wasn't the best, dark too early...

Left to right - M43 Feldbluse, M36, Feld-Gendarmerie, and Gend. tunic w/dark brown collar/cuffs called for in 1942.
