Default Help ID imperial officer

Hi friends, requesting your help identifying rank, regiment, service record or any info you can shed light on this soldier named as Jean Baptiste Hengartner, if I am reading it correctly, Constanz (Baden)1858 from an old oil painting.
Oil needs restoration work and a better frame. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and ideas with me.
Please let me know if you need better shots.
Thank you.
Choose to have a great day!

Johan Baptist Hengartner (1830-1895) is the artist. I'm afraid that's all I can tell you.

Default Gendarmerie

Hi Vellocino,

I am afraid an ID will probably be impossible. The subject is a Gendarm of the 1st District (Konstanz) of the Grand Ducal Baden Gendarmerie-Corps.

Regards
Glenn

Wow, great info! Thank you both for your input. Dumb of me, not recognizing name as artist name. Police uniform great to know too!
I appreciate.
