cast repro, unmarked. The S&L-design was a popular target.

And no collection of fakes would be complete without a couple of Staegemeir clones, also based upon the S&L-design.

Here's another Staegemeir variant, this time without the tell-tale fake "bubbling", but obligingly marked with a spurious "1" in the ring.

To cleanse the palate, I'll end this presentation on the S&L-design (and its numerous fakes) with these nice images posted previously by Patrick W of his zinc example described as "one that was grabbed out of the S&L factory stocks".

Like the Weitze "S&L sales case" example, this presumably represents what was available from S&L in the early post-war period, whether made in late wartime or not. It would seem they did not have an endless stock of suspension bands.

Best regards,
---Norm

Hi Norm , many thanks for taking the time to provide this very thorough analysis .
I have read through the thread you highlighted , very educational .
Also your last post brings up an interesting point about the suspension rings , maybe that is why my medal has a non-standard suspension ring .

Regards Steve.
