Default Please help me with a LW tunic

Hi I see a Luftwaffe tunic with this aiguillette (twisted rope) , I think this one can only be used from the rank leutnant, but he is only a NCO. Am I wrong ? And the head of the eagle is a little wired? Thank you

That is an original private purchase hand embroidered early droop tail eagle. Perfectly acceptable on a pre-war tunic. I have the same style somewhere in my eagle collection.

The bullion wire aigulette was generally not available for use by personnel who were not yet commissioned officers. It is my understanding than even officer candidates (even though they could wear bullion cap cords and insignia on their visored caps, could not wear the aigulette. I would be happy to be corrected by someone who has a copy of regulations to the contrary. As Willi said, the eagle is fine.

Looks completely original to me, and 1935 pattern eagles were used on tunics up to the end of the war.

Hello,

I am not an expert and cannot say if the tunic as it sits is original, but I looked through my Uniforms and Traditions of the Luftwaffe and it lists the “Aiguillettes” to be worn with the “parade dress” and “dress uniform” by officers and officials with officer rank.

It also says when the uniform is used for “parade dress” you must only wear an Aiguillette when you have a medal bar worn as well. If the medal bar is switched out for a ribbon bar the Aiguillette must be removed too.

By the way the droop-tail eagle is beautiful! I have my eye out for a nice pre-war tunic too.

Hope that helps!

You can always replace the aiguilette with a shooting lanyard

Nice tunic. The Aiguillette, as has been stated previously, does not belong on an NCO tunic.

Thank you so much.
I have another question that the Aiguillette twisted direction is upsided , I saw it is different with others on the internet. Any ideas for that too ? post war Aiguillette? Thank you
