For all you SVNAF aviation buffs.
Appears to be Bird in flight, maximum downward
wing stroke, over a cherry? over the Y. Nha-Trang 1963/64.

Hey John, This is a French manufactured helicopter ~ Aerospatiale Alouette II. Note the "open frame" tail boom because the Alouette III's tail boom had a metal skin. Anyway, see the nose art? I think you know (or know of) Bob Elzer of CH-37 fame at Nha Trang. He loaned me the b&w photos some years back. Via Google you can read the history of VNAF and the Alouette II. The Alousette II was flown in Laos by the French army but there is no mention of it flying in Vietnam. A flight school (air training center) was established in Nha Trang in 1952. In 1957 the 1st VNAF Helicopter Squadron was established in Saigon w/o equipment but when the French departed they started out with 10 H-19s later replaced with CH-34s. Now, the nose art ~ it doesn't match any of the VNAF Squadrons (that I know about). HOWEVER, it does look something like the Air Training Center logo. Your thoughts please and thanks? Cheers Mike

This reminds me of the SPA 3 and SPA 67 insignia. These were French fighter squadrons during the Indochina war. I have never seen this design with VNAF units though.
