Thanks for the detailed photos hagen. That fake stamp on the inside of the Klarscheiben compartment (with the same number as Tom's WaA stamp) really closes the issue - for me anyway. I agree with Mulon - these have been altered to seem more wartime produced.

Still doesn't explain mine who was a direct pick-up and that I got from the guy who picked it up when the Germans left his home town.

We can't explain anything to you because you're asking us to believe a story, while we're trying to analyze these pieces based on the few documentation we have.
I do not question your good faith about the find, but just as honestly I tell you that I hardly believe in the stories behind the pieces I collect

Just for fun here pictures of my tan gm 30 and gm 38

The gm30 has the date 25 APR 63 M (which someone tried to make invisible.... just a little hard to make out on the picture but clearly visible.

The gm38 has the date 03 MEI 63 M

The MEI stamp convinces me even more that it is a dutch job, because as far as i know the dutch are the only country who use MEI for the month of may

About my filter.... i never thought of the possibility of the fake WaA stamp to be honest..... but indeed it is the most logical explanation.

The filter came as far as i can remember with the gm30 which has the 63 date strike through, so probably the whole set was tampered with .... funny thing is i never paid a big price for the whole set.

Still, the yellow paint must have been done in the factory, otherwise it would have meant the complete disassembly of the gas mask. What would have being the point of that after the war?

This not true IMO. Oculars are easy to disassembly for example, snut no...and in this picture (Tom's property) you can see traces of yellow paint on the mask, so this is an hand made job IMO.

Mine is definitely hand-painted - up close you can see the brush strokes. It does look like some parts were disassembled - the edge of the mask along the valve is too clean to be hand done, but the lenses have paint on them, showing this part was not disassembled or sprayed.
