No kidding. I have a GJ officer visor whereby the eagle was moved up to make room for the Edelweiss, and I have an GJ enlisted visor with no Edelweiss but with the 5. GJ division unit badge pinned to the side. I have also personally seen an enlisted GJ visor hat with no Edelweiss but unit stamped inside to the GJ regiment.

Unusualness has always existed.
But there are also a lot of visor cap with replaced insignia after WW2.
(Like uniform eagles etc.)
Prove when it is replaced is fairly speculative.
