Default ZF-41 behalter correct positioning on uniform ?

hi, wonder if anyone has a picture/pictures of the case mounted on the belt in its correct position ( for proof ) ?

did it go left rearwards before the k98 ammo pouch or in front and was the ammo pouch re-positioned to allow for the extra bulk of the case or did any soldiers ever remove an ammo pouch for better fit ?

thanks in advance, i have plenty of books on k98 rifles etc and scopes but not one phot with the case on an uniform.

Chris

I have only seen a few photos of the can being worn. Will try to locate them. If I recall correctly they were carried on the left rear. No need to have the can readily accessible.

Having some personal experience (not with ZF41 but later equipment) I can assure you that there was no standard place. But on the whole it would be rather on the left side, since on the right side the gun is worn and it has to be accessible and everything which keeps from using it is a nuisance. Further if I were the soldier I would take the ZF41 off the k98 when not on duty and put the whole can in the rucksack whereas when on duty the scope stays on the gun and the can in the rucksack. From the soldiers practical point of view.

I agree. Most carried their cans in their rucksack, according to vets I have talked to over the years.

This is not the photo I had in mind, but I can't find the other one.

I agree. The "experimental" first model case hat a leather strap and was often a pain in the ass when it broke. The 2nd model and later had a canvas strap and that one also often broke at the top of the case because of the 3 pins on top.

If I remind it correct there was a rule in the beginning that said that the zf41 carriers had to carry the case on the leather belt but you can imagen that there are much better places to carry it with you.
