Default EK I ww1 Paul Maybauer

Dear all,

I write my first post on this forum because recently (few days ago) I bought online an EK I (my first one, in general I collect Italian medals of the I and the II world war).

The cross, if authentic, was produced by Paul Meybauer in the years after ww1 (possibly even in the early days of the Third Reich).

I have some doubts about the authenticity of this item. Firs of all the general shape of "1914" and especially the shape of the number "4" is puzzling me...

Also the external frame is irregular in the right half of the cross: you can notice in particular a small knob (red arrow) and, concerning the right arm, is possible to see how the upper part of the frame is thicker (green arrow) than the lower (green arrow near the red one).

Anyway the cross is built correctly in three pieces with a magnetic core. Also there are traces of black paint in the internal part of the frame near the core.

Can you help me? Thank you all for the attention

Your cross is a fake of a WWII-era replacement cross.
