Default Wehrmacht Era Sport Insignia

I am going to start this thread because I feel this forum lacks info on this subject. I am asking that this be pinned as a forum under the title "Wehrmacht Era cloth Sport Insignia" and any other threads that may exist on this subject be re routed to this forum. My hopes are that it will be used for people to show off what items they have but also be used to talk about different versions and other related sport insignia such as school's, corporations and other sport's clubs that all had there own insignias.

I have been on the hunt for info and photos of these items for some time and come across little info till recently. I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Newbrough at the max show who is the author of " Sport and the Third Reich: History, Uniforms, Insignia, and Awards " really the first of it's kind.

After my brother received his book I noticed many items that I always believed had exist but never seen one or a photo of one. One in particular is the following. My brother who has been at this for some time was surprised to see it as well. The Ironic part of this story is 2 days after seeing it in the book I found one for sale as a freak accident while searching the internet for some thing else unrelated. I did end up buying it.

The following photo is of my 1st pattern Kriegsmarine Sport shirt patch the wingspan is 8 1/2". What I want to know is was this an insignia that I just never noticed before and is more common then I think or is this as rare I have thought? I can not seem to fined it any where else on the internet.

Greetings All,

Great thread. I have a thread on Reichswehr sport insignia in the Wehrmacht uniform and insignia forum. www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623478

These early KM sport eagles are out there. I have owned one before. They don't come up that often though.

Where can I get a copy of this book? It sounds rather interesting. Does he cover sport award patches? There are alot of spurious examples in the hobby right now being passed off as original.

I hope to see some sport insignia!

Fred

I still need to get the police sports insignia yet but there are about 5 different versions. I do have a small one like yours. My small one glows but there are many faded stains in it that leads me to believe that some one washed it. In case you don't know washing an item with modern detergents will give it a glow from the brighteners in it. Also during that time there where brighteners used to keep whites white. This is why you need to also do burn tests not just glow tests. I also use a magnify glass to make sure there are twists in the threads.

SA sport roundel for group "Warthe" color Blue.
All of these in this style that I have seen in person has the RZM tag sown on to it in the same location or you can see that one was at one time there. I have seen others on web sites that are just stuck on and not sown on in different locations. I question whether or not the RZM on those are the original to that item. They may be ones that some one has put to it at a later time. This is just my observation and opinion and it may be wrong.

Can you tell if it's real by the reverse?

The book was released last month and I think it is on sale at Amazon. It is a must buy in my opinion. He did a great job on it.
