Here is another 1935 G.Appel kit that is also marked for the Deutsche Reichs Post (Hnvr), but on the inside of the lid
with its matching spoon. Take note that this is the first variation of the spoon. It did not have the floorplate stud on it. These are very rare.

Hi Robert!
I have seen that type of chain in cmr45 kits where oilers are made of molded alloy metal.

The steel "barrels" on my "rco45" pullthrough are also blued. I think the crude wire tip is also. Just a good way to protect the steel, and I guess easier than phosphating such small pieces..I guess.

Jos or Francois,
Could this thread be pinned? It is very useful! It would be nice if we could have a set of pinned threads showing the variations of basic fieldgear e.g. gasmasks and cans, bread bags etc. for reference

Hi Robert!
I have seen them both phophated, blued and white metal so I guess they used what was in hand in the moment during the production. This might be a result of low quality standard inspection of such war material in the last days.

Carl

Carl,
You are always very quick to help people, so I will send you some scans ( of pictures ) next week of a Kust Art. engagement with WWII documentation describing the event; a Russian commando raid that went sour with the wrecked ship and dead commandos littering the beach, the event took place on Krim. I even have the name and address of the person who took them ( I should check if he still is alive ). All of it againt a Kust. Art unit ( By the way my Grandfather was a Kust. art. man in France, Norway and Denmark ), my way of thanking you!
Robert

Willi great pics thanks! I am a firm believer that RCO 45 RG34 cans included a variation of the oiler that you do not show. It is a black plastic oiler. I have found over 5 of them. Certainly they could be post war but one must also believe they could be late war too. If anyone needs one i have a few sans the cleaning chain. pm me. regards, john

Here is an example of a cmr 45 kit.
The oiler in it is slightly different from the one in Willi's kit in that it has a weld seam in the middle. This kit also has the simplest form of the cleaning chain.
