Default 1813 Iron Cross First Class

Hello. Id like to ask two questions regarding the 1813 iron cross first class. Firstly are there any known originals that are surviving in collection today. And if possible, could you post photos of one. I have a hard time finding one for reference. Secondly, Did these originally come with the loops for sew on or were they pin back? Id also like to know a current value for these pieces if its possible as well. Thanks, Martin.

That may be a little high but that set comes with all sorts of documentation etc.

In 2008 a similar cross, also original but repaired, sold at Andreas Thies auctions for just over $27,000. That's US dollars:

So while I also find the eBay piece quite expensive, I don't think it's in the realm of the absurd.

These are surely among the rarest items for an Iron Cross or Prussia collector.

And by the way, I would like to ask whether cores EK 1813 came only from the steelworks in Gliwice /Koniglisches Eisengießerei Gleiwitz (Hutten Amt Gleiwitz)/, or also from Berlin ?

Interesting reading the write-up on eBay. Impressive piece!

At that price, maybe he doesn’t want to sell it.

Hello. Thank you all for writing back. I found these photos online. One of them is made of cloth. I also found one with the three prongs and judging the photos, the center is made of cloth. If anyone has any knowledge on these, let us know. I personally haven't heard of one until seeing these photos. Perhaps a fake??? Martin.

I apologize if the photos come out big.

I can't comment on the cross and its price. But, this dealer (Kai Winkler) prices everything he sells at 50% to sometimes 200% above normal retail prices. He makes dealers like Weitze and eMedals look like bargain basement wholesalers. I don't know what his motivation is. But, selling anything from his inventory can't be high on his agenda. Nobody but a fool with deep pockets would ever buy anything from him.

The three-pronger is definitely a fake, a reworked KO.

The cloth one is not an official piece even if it is old.

The last one, the pinback, looks like it might have a chance but I can't tell what's up with the core or of course the seams. Any info on that one from the website on which it was shown?
