One of the covering of the optics has been covered by black ribbon, the other one holds the original rubber

Yes, WW1 Period.

The Deutscher Offizier Verein in Berlin was a large company that sold Private Purchase Military Goods. They were one of several companies that sold goods to the officers. The building was huge, as seen by an image from the catalog pages, and stood 4 or 5 stories tall. Basically a large shopping department store for German Officers to purchase from.

All of the German Officers had to purchase their own equipment, uniforms, helmets, etcetera. This equipment was not issued by the German Military, but had to be purchased privately by each officer.

I've attached a few images from some of their catalogs. As you can see by the cover of one of the catalogs, the optics section is listed to start on page #175.

I have a reprint of one of these catalogs in my reference library. They are fascinating to browse through and see the photos & prices of all the items available to purchase.

Best Regards,

Alan
