All german artillery regiments had had the ball topped Pickelhaube beginning in 1845.

Well, Martin refers to a Bavarian helmet, and the Bavarian artillery had a spike top and not a ball top until 1916. All other German states and contingents used the ball top for the artillery - but not Bavaria.

Harry

Thanks for kind input, so on that I would assume that any picklehaube from Bavarian Artillery regiments with a ball top would be of the late war type dark grey fittings and not Brass ? best and thanks again to all martin .
