Default Heydrich villa in Panenské Břežany for sale . . .

http://promuze.blesk.cz/clanek/pro-muze-historie/381415/sidlo-po-heydrichovi-je-na-prodej-zamek-koupite-za-17-milionu.html

Reinhard Heydrich stayed here with his family. Now the historical site is for sale at 17 million dollars!

For nearly 25 years, the Chateau in Panenské Břežany has been empty. In 1941, the picturesque Chateau near Prague became the home of the Reich Protector, Reinhard Heydrich. He moved into the Chateau in 1941 - and in the Spring of 1942, he was joined by his pregnant wife, Lina, and their three children. Following his death on June 4, 1942, the Reich Protector's wife remained in the Chateau – and continued to enjoy the picturesque surroundings until the end of the war.

"The castle is now recognized as a national monument. Although the property has been virtually abandoned 25 years, the perimeter walls still stand strong, and the roof is still in good shape. Unfortunately, the cellar has become infected with mold – and according to experts, could be dangerous for new occupants. Everything is reflected in the price”, says Vaclav Hlásek – the liquidator of the Chateau.

"The Chateau, as well as the adjacent land, once belonged to a Metals Research Institute. We prefer candidates that will purchase the entire complex - part of which now belongs to an innovative technological center, which recently entered bankruptcy. The land and surrounding buildings are comprised of industrial warehouses and laboratories - being about 9 hectares. The lowest total price we are authorized to accept - to include the Chateau - is 32 million crowns", says Hlásek.

The property is not in the best condition. "Some time ago I came to the castle, it's terrible, I almost did not recognize it there. Virtually everything in it devastated”, says Helen Vovsová - who once worked at the Chateau for the Heydrich family.

True, it is a “Fixer-Upper” . . .

Of course, amongst all the other previously-mentioned amenities . . . one get’s a Grand staircase [reputedly, crafted in marble of the same type used to embellish the Reich Chancellery] . . . along with some magnificent coffered ceilings, installed all throughout the Chateau . . . a swimming pool [to include a pool-house and concrete frog fountain] . . . your very own "Weinstube" . . . and a Master bedroom that includes fold-out windows on more than two walls – each looking out into Lina’s [overgrown] garden, where the Heydrich children spent many a day frolicking amongst the grounds.

At 17 Million Dollar’s, what more could one ask for?

And lest I forget . . . your very own 2nd-Floor [or 1st-Floor, if you happen to be in Europe] "Party Room" - suitable for a little friendly "Mensur" amongst your closest friends . . .

Looks like Heydrich's Mercedes also survived...(assassination damage repaired)
You could park that in front of the chateau!

I have seen what was claimed to be the bullet riddled black Mercedes in the Army museum in Prague, so is there controversy that it isn't actually the real one?

Regards

Yeah I guess there are several MB cars that survived...Heydrich had at least 2...
and which one is the true assassination car is being contested...
The bumpers on the black one certainly are a much better match!

A British tabloid (The Daily News) reported that Heydrich's son Heider was interested in the chateau, since he spent his youth there...
but a German source claims that its a BS story...
This lady was one of the hired local gardeners at the time Heydrich ruled.

Well then, Nick - it is a little lengthy - but you might find this clip interesting:

From an interview, graciously offered last Fall. Some day I'll have to post more from that "gig" . . .

Yep that's her. I don't speak the lingo though but apparently she witnessed the accident with the other son Klaus I guess...or the aftermath + funeral...
Klaus, who got hit by a truck while bicycling on the morning of 24 October 1943. Both brothers are cycling in the courtyard.
The younger brother Heider gets bored and goes inside. The main gate to the public road is open because his mother expects a visitor that day,
so Klaus seizes the opportunity and takes off. The driver of a small truck can't evade him. Klaus dies later that day from his wounds, he is 10 years old.
His dad was already assassinated... but the family (mother Lina and the younger son Heider) stayed in the house until 1945 when they get evicted.

Researching this further I guess there is some truth after all about the younger son's interest in the building!
Heider offers in the aid to the restoration of the building. This offer doesn't sit well with the Czechs and it leads to strong reactions in the media.
Then it's declared that Heider's offer is totally misunderstood...(he no interest in living there, but it must bring back many memories as his brother's tragic death,
father's loss etc...)
