Thank you for sharing this,

Hello Wild Card,

The creases in the paper indicate that there are at least two distinct ways in which it was originally folded. One is the way shown in the pictures and I believe this is the way it was folded at the time the EK was issued, and before the paper was two-hole punched. The second way allows for the holes to line up so that the wrapped cross can be stored in a binder, the way many soldiers stored their award documents after the war.

While the lined up holes would allow for a string to be run through them and tied, I don't believe this was actually the purpose of the holes.

Thanks for your interest.

Best,

Alex

OMG, Andy! Now that's quite a hoard you've assembled! And from 9 different makers no less. I never imagined I'd be able to see so many different sets together in one collection. Simply outstanding!

How were you ever able to acquire so many? I think I'm the one who's green with envy now.

Thanks for sharing these with us!

Best,

Alex

Default Unexpected Bonus

I needed a cross for a group and bought a nice, minty KO on eBay for the purpose.

When it arrived, it was wrapped in its original blue wrapper with ribbon and shiny safety pin with a note from the eBay seller that said, "The cross came wrapped in this blue paper with new ribbon and pin. So, I thought I would send it all to you as I found it."

As he had only posted pics of the cross on eBay, he obviously was unaware of the significance of the wrapper and unused ribbon and pin.

As I am getting out of EKs, except as part of groups, this will be on eStand shortly.

But, I wanted to post it here with the happy story for everyone to enjoy.

Just wanted to share some pics of my upgraded Godet EK2 set. Luckily I was able to find a blue wrapper without any holes punched through it. Hope you guys like the new set.

It looks like there is a maker mark on the safety pin. I wonder if the same company supplied all of the different cross makers or if they just sourced them locally.
