Default Strange French box ww1 or ww2?....help for identifications

Hi guys, I found this metal box with a strange opening. The color seems to me French, but I would not go wrong, I do not know if it is ww1 or ww2.
The height is about 20 cm.
Thank you all in advance for the help.
Regards
Uwe

I had a USA 1872 meat can that looked somewhat similar. Maybe it's a ration can or meat tin also?

The metal material does not bend, but is very light. There are no markings.

I do not know if it's military use, but I did not find any images. I thought this was French, but perhaps it was American.

Not sure about American... I think you may be on to something with he color- I would have guessed French or at least European with that color.
Here's a pic of the meat can- the idea was to get meat out of the soldiers oilcloth and in to something that would preserve it better. The top was supposed to have a dual function as a coffee cup, and the open handle was so it could be hung from the soldiers haversack- away from other gear. I sold it some time ago to advance guard militaria, a real cool item. The holes at the top are what's getting me thinking it's rations rather than something else, but who knows?
