Thanks Gran Sasso,
I've read the entire thread (including posts #10 & #40), but there still is the question.

ZAM states on post #10: M44 Sturmrucksack= above (straps at top).
Ari (artillery) Rucksack= with leather straps right and left, for the Zeltbahn.

That seems clear, but CWP (post #12) contradicts that:

Artillery rucksacks have integral shoulder straps and were introduced in February 1940 (H.M. 40, Nr 298) for non-mounted Artillery personnel as a substitute for the A-frame, at this time Artillery soldiers were not issued Y-straps. Sometime probably around late 1943 or 1944 production of the A-frame was halted entirely and a new small rucksack was introduced to replace the A-frame and Tornister. This new small rucksack was similar to the Artillery rucksack but it had hooks for Y-straps, instead of shoulder straps, and it had straps for the Zeltbahn. If it has no shoulder straps it is not an Artillery rucksack regardless of misinformation from collectors and dealers.

So.....what is this variation?
SF Mike

To bring this old thread back... does anyone of you have a backpack with all web closing straps and the 4 "D-Rings" on the front? (the huge type with 2 pockets)
