Default SS-marine photos

Hi all,

Recently I picked up abot 20 interesting photos of a SS-unit (water police??). I have never seen anything like this, so I am curious if anyone could give me any background on it... I assume it is fairly rare subject.

1) Could anyone provide me some background on them
2) Can anyone ID the officers in the first photo?
3) would anyone recognize the location?

Thank you,
Lohengrin

"W SchP. 21" - Wasserschutzpolizei. 21 could be the 21st unit in Hamburg

Still today exists a unit with this name and number in Hamburg:

WSP 021
Wilstorfer Straße 100
21073 Hamburg
Tel.: 040 4286-65030
Telefax: 040 4286-65019
E-Mail: wsp021@polizei.hamburg.de

Further to my IDs above, the Luft General could be Friedrich Christiansen.

Hello Lohengrin,

A VERY interesting and rare find! The unit depicted here is the so-called SW.-Kommando "IJsselmeer" also known as the IJsselmeer Schutzflottille. This unit was created as Rauter wanted to have better protection of the IJsselmeer in Holland . The unit was a strange mixture of German Wasserschutzpolizei and Dutch Waffen-SS volunteers - largely drafted from the Wachbataillon Nordwest.

The unit had 4 Gruppen available based in Amsterdam, Enkhuizen and Lemmer. It had some 30 Waffenboote - usually former Dutch barges. The W.Sch.P.21 shown on one of the photo's is the Dutch barge "Elma". The distinctive shape of the Drommedaris tower in Enkhuizen can be seen on one of the pictures.

I think that the Wasserschutzpolizei officer on the far left of the first picture is the commander of the unit: Walter Baak.

Very interesting photo's of a rather unique unit

Regards,
Bert
