I came across this photo of a German soldier who may look familiar as he appeared in Brian Davis' excellent reference "German Army Uniforms and Insignia 1933-1945". He was identified as 16 year old Josef Voss, captured in Lemgo, Germany. Davis used a head shot but here is a full length image showing, of course, an M-44 uniform including M-44 trousers:

Note the 'early-war' (Gefreiter) insignia still in use on the M44, as we've seen elsewhere on this thread.

Also, Der Spiess (Luftwaffe) doesn't look too amused by the haircuts going on to his right....

Regards, Paul

Very nice picture John.

I'm wondering if that M44 jacket might be made from gabardine?

Yes Paul,
Could be, when compared with wool trousers and the woolset, worn
by the other officer. Also seems to have just added shoulder boards, to an
O/r's set.

John.

Regarding the breast eagle, it appears to be a trapezoid but can't tell whether or not it is a flatwire pattern.

It is also an interesting photo in that he is wearing a LW ground assault badge.

Well spotted, you have a sharp eye.
The original picture, shows a big pile of capture
weapons, enjoy.

The left breast pocket seems much lower. I 'm guessing that gabardine was not just for custom order tunics but used in mass production tunics?
