Default Is this cheap Chinese copy of a Japanese sword?

Hey folks,

Ive seen the copies of swords out there that have almost a Damascus look to them.

I believe this is copy as well. Even the roughness of the tang is off.

thanks for any info

J

From what I can see it's not a Japanese sword.

Regards,

Good eye on the damascus steel. It is popular with the Chinese copiers for some reason. Not even the occupied territories used that kind of steel during the war.

I would hang on with this one, and post it across to.. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/ in their military section. The tang is not THAT bad, some of the wartime stuff was well rough, and the "Damascus" does not look quite like the usual Chinese rubbish.
No guarantees, but I would look around some more. Do you own it, or is this a prospective purchase?

Don't waste your time with this fake. Kanji is totally stupid ... you'd think a Chinese craftsman could come up with something better.

万東京小
Man Tōkyō shō
10,000 Tōkyō small

Plus ... the "kanji" are in the wrong location for any sort of legitimate name/date.

I’ve often wondered why they don’t even make an effort to put legit kanji on the fakes.

Definitely Chinese, not even a fantasy “island sword”.
