New to Luftwaffe uniforms. did the luftwaffe field division troops ever wear the splinter pattern camo tunic alone without a fliegerbluse underneath? Is there any photo evidence of this?

Sure, with the shirt or even without, think about summer in Italy, Greece, even France and southern Russia and they will suffered heat strokes if they wear shirt, fliegerbluse and camp tunic together.

Yes all is possible. But many photos of FD in France during summer 44 show the wear of the field tunic or Fliegerlbluse. I would say most, in fact.
There are hundred of photos.
See these few examples from Bundesarchiv, related to 18. Lw FD in august 44 :

When talking about this one has to remember that you wear your stuff not only during the hot day but also during the night, when it can get quite cold even in summer. At the front you don`t have a closet where you can put away your Fliegerbluse and take it from there later - you have only things that your wear on yourself.

I think that this is the main reason of what Luft 76 writes.

Slightly related: there are definitely pics of Waffen SS camo smocks being worn by themselves as well.
